he Medical Cannabis Declaration is a charity created by a collective of medical professionals and patients, who believe that the right to medical cannabis should be an integral part of the right to health. Armed with the most modern scientific papers and medical reviews on the issue, the charity aims at spreading knowledge on the understandings of medical cannabis to communities around the world.
How far would you be willing to go, to get your medicines? What if this basic right was threatened your day to day life? Currently, thousands of people rely on the black market for their medicines. This is an unsustainable situation as patients are forced to break the law in order to gain from the medical effects of cannabis. Apart from the risks of criminalisation, cannabis’ quality varies, when purchased on the streets, in creasing the risks to the patient.
A group of medical professionals and medical cannabis patients decided to push forward in the recognition of medical cannabis as a medical right, by launching the “The Medical Cannabis Declaration (MCD)” charity. The MCD charity is an online platform founded on 16 February 2013 in Ruethen, Germany, that aims at promoting safe and regular prescription and use of medical cannabis, globally.
Hundreds of scientific studies on the medical use of cannabis and cannabinoids are published and more will follow in the next years. The International Association for Cannabinoid Medicines (IACM, http://www.cannabis-med.org) allows easy access to these studies via a database and newsletter – MCD and the campaign “Yes to cannabis as medicine” will strongly cooperate with IACM to join forces. IACM welcomes and will support the campaign.
